What’s the Deal with Candy Buttons?

Something fun about working at Ida Red, is that occasionally there is someone that bursts through our doors and scrambles to find some kind of candy that is a personal nostalgic trip for that particular person. One of those things is … Candy Buttons. Now this is really the beautiful thing about nostalgia—its different for every person.

I don’t remember ever having a candy button in my life, so they are not necessarily nostalgic for me. Although I do think they are rather lovely. They sure are showing off a nice set of colors.

This however was not the case for this particular young woman that came in today. She HAD to have candy buttons, and she HAD to have them now. So I sold her a handful of packages and this got me wondering … what’s the deal with candy buttons?

Made by Necco, these colorful buttons are guaranteed to give a cheap and fast sugar high.

I found some fun videos people had made using candy buttons as well.

This cup of ramen explores what would happen if you ate TOO MANY candy buttons.

So there was only one thing left to do … eat a few. I had read that people had trouble getting them off the paper. I found this not to be much of a problem.

Crunch Crunch. They kind of remind me of icing? Crunchy icing. Mostly just a zing of sugar! I couldn’t really taste any difference in the colors either. I can definitely understand why these are such a hit with kids. Just sweet and pretty little things.

In came some nice teenage ladies, so I thought I’d make them give the candy buttons a whirl.
